Orthodontics Point Cook

Straighten and align your teeth with our orthodontic treatments.

Having straight teeth is a big part of a healthy smile. At Iris Dental, we believe that orthodontic treatment is not just for children, but for people through all stages of life. It is never too late to fix your smile, and our dedicated and skilled dental professionals will sit with you to understand your needs and desires so you can undergo the best orthodontic treatment for you.

The benefits of orthodontic treatment go way beyond looks. Crooked or crowded teeth may cause uneven wear of tooth surfaces or jaw problems that may lead to complications later in life. They can also be difficult to clean properly, which makes them prone to tooth decay and gum disease. Undergoing orthodontic treatment helps with the overall health of your teeth as brushing and flossing can become easier, in turn reducing the likelihood of decay.

While orthodontic treatment is most common during childhood and adolescence, an increasing number of adults today are also opting for orthodontic treatment. For adults, treatment may take a little longer because the facial bones have stopped growing. But whatever your age, keeping your teeth and gums healthy during orthodontics treatment will help keep treatment time on a track.

We want patients not to be deterred by the thought that metal braces are the only option for correcting their smile, but to explore the wide range of options available. Our orthodontics options include:

We will work with you to choose a treatment and formulate a treatment plan that suits both your lifestyle and your wishes.

A well-aligned bite and straight teeth don’t just look good, they can also improve your oral health. A smile with many hard to reach places can obstruct your daily oral hygiene routine and increase the risk of dental decay and periodontal disease. Fortunately, our orthodontic solutions can correct most concerns and make it easier to maintain a good dental hygiene routine.

What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a specialised field of dentistry that mainly deals with askew teeth and jaws as well as the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of dental and facial imperfections. This specialised field involves the fitting of braces to help straighten teeth and close gaps between teeth, removable braces or the use of orthodontic headgear.

How long will it take to complete the treatment?

Every case differs and there are a number of factors involved such as how you look after the device and your teeth as well as your response to the treatment. The typical time that orthodontic treatments take to correct teeth is usually around 1-3 years, with a visit to your dentist every 4 to 8 weeks to adjust the alignment of your braces. Other factors that play a role on the time taken for one’s individual treatment are age, the cooperation level of the patient and how complex the persons case is.

Are there foods that I cannot eat while using braces?

When you have braces, there are certain foods that you should stay away from – especially those that can cause cavities or break your wires! So, foods that are high in sugar, sweets and fizzy drinks should be cut down.

Foods that are high in sugar and starch should be eaten in moderation as they cause a build-up of plaque acid which can cause tooth decay.

Sticky foods can get stuck in the wires and the brackets which can loosen the braces or cause wire damage.

Ice chips are okay, however, chewing and biting ice is not advised as it can damage your braces and your teeth in the long run.
